A glutinous rice cake
There was once a girl deaf and numb
Living in an outlying place
With her dear mum
Her father had been dead in the front
So a lot of difficulty
They had to confront
Although life was rough and tough
Simple life was enough
Every day after work
Her mum would bring her back
A glutinous rice cake
For her it was always the happiest time
Like bells harmoniously to chime
One night heavy rains were pouring
With strong winds roaring
Looking at the clock again and again
When would mum be back, when?
She should have been back by then
What had happened to her in the rain?
She couldn’t wait any more
For her heart was sore and sore
With an umbrella she went out
And tried to follow
Her mum’s routine route
She felt cold and shivered all over
So nameless in the rain
Just like a rover
All of a sudden,
She found someone lying ahead
And was overwhelmed
By a sudden numbing dread
It was her dear mum, face pale
Tortured in the rain and the merciless gale
No longer would she open her eyes
To see her dear gal
Embrace her
And swirl..
To the little girl’s shock and surprise
Something grand
Tightly forever locked
In her mum’s cold and icy hand
She couldn’t believe her eyes
It was a glutinonous cake
And it was always her favorite!
